Fired up for the 2020 Australian Interior Design Awards

Another year of the Australian Interior Design Awards, another outstanding shortlist of projects. And this year, we are tickled to see Oblica products featuring in three exquisite residential projects.

Of course, we must first mention Freadman White and their Palazzo Marcello project. This truly captivating apartment is the penthouse and the crowning glory of Whitlam Place, a boutique residential complex located in Fitzroy. The Palazzo Marcello superbly marries the neighbourhood’s quirky vibe with European design. In the light-filled living room of this apartment sits Ergofocus, suspended above pink and green terrazzo paving. Quite possibly one of the most unique and superb installations of our fireplaces we have seen.

Another stunning interior space being recognised in this year’s awards is Breezeway House by David Boyle Architect. Located on the NSW Central Coast, set amongst tree canopies, overlooking the ocean, this is no ordinary holiday home. In Breezeway House, the Nelson double-sided fireplace by Invicta acts as a unique room divider. This is a truly wonderful way to subtly separate the living and dining area of this sprawling open-plan space.

Last, but certainly not least, we turn to the Prahran House by Techne Architecture + Interior Design. Behind the restored, industrial façade of this building sits a striking brutalist residence that we cannot get enough of. There, in a ground floor space filled with exquisite furnishing, striking aboriginal art and contemporary paintings, our Filifocus brings warmth and another sculptural presence.

It warms our hearts to see these projects recognised, and it’s a pleasure to have our fireplaces used in such inspiring ways. In fact, it’s fantastic that over 20 projects in this year’s AIDA shortlist feature fireplaces in general. There really is nothing we love more than a fireplace in a well-designed interior.

In a departure from usual practise, this year’s winners will be announced in an online celebration on May 29. However, what remains the same is our eager anticipation to find out who will be taking out top honours! Best of luck to all the 2020 AIDA nominees.
