Masterpiece Abodes: Maison Melba by Atelier L’Abri
Nestled in the picturesque village of Frelighsburg, Quebec, Maison Melba by Atelier L’Abri is a shining example of contemporary architecture that honours both history and the environment. This PassivHaus-certified residence masterfully blends high-performance building standards with material warmth and artisanal elegance.
Fire as a Centrepiece
At the heart of the home, a Stûv 21-95 double-sided fireplace creates a striking connection between the lounge and the reading room. The minimalist, see-through design allows the warmth and ambience of the fire to be enjoyed from both spaces, offering a perfect balance of visual continuity and functional comfort. Stuv’s sleek freestanding cladding echoes the project’s commitment to understated luxury and energy efficiency.
Materials & Architectural Integrity
Maison Melba’s architectural language celebrates craftsmanship and material authenticity. The exterior is clad in Kebony wood, while the interior features artisanal lime plaster walls and exquisite wide plank flooring. The palette is soft and cohesive, creating a calm, tactile environment that enhances the home’s natural light and spatial flow.
The design is a collaborative showcase of global and local talent. Furnishings from renowned brands like Vipp, Frama, Santa & Cole, Ligne Roset, and Dinesen are thoughtfully integrated with custom pieces by Canadian makers including Kastella, Clara Jorisch, Atelier Vaste, Mark Krebs, Montauk, and Ema ceramics. Rich textiles by Bisson Bruneel add warmth and depth throughout the interiors.
A Lasting Impression
Maison Melba is more than a house—it is a dialogue between modern sustainability and timeless craftsmanship. We’re proud to see the Stûv 21-95 wood fireplace featured in such an inspiring project, where every detail speaks to a commitment to quality, beauty, and environmental consciousness.
